Deep Cycle or Cranking Batteries for Thrusters?

Question:

One topic on the forum that the owners are trying to understand is what battery should be used for thrusters; crank or deep cycle, and how charging should be setup. I’ve looked for information on your site but have not found anything specific yet, so if you have something you can point me to I’ll review it. The research I’ve done leans towards a deep cycle battery, but it’s interesting the different opinions and reasoning  Thanks, Ron

Answer:

Hi Ron, thrusters should use cranking batteries as the amperage draw is very high and similar to a starter amperage load. Also, a thruster should be used only for short bursts of power.  Deep cycle batteries are meant for low amperage draw discharge for a long period of time.  - Jeff
